The future workforce will have vastly changed, and there will be many challenges that society will need to overcome with innovative problem solving and ethical considerations. To do this, we need to keep in mind that we are preparing our students for a future world that will look quite different to our world today.

Inspire: to provide the leadership necessary to inspire teachers, and their students, to take action and pursue their passions, in order to lead fulfilling careers. Innovate: to use a future-focused approach, to develop important 21st century skills, and create innovative solutions to current and future problems. Ignite: to guide teachers, and their students, to find their 'spark', by tapping into their unique and individual strengths, talents and interests within positive learning environments. Most importantly, these skills go beyond our current model of standards and tests, and have the potential to prepare students for a job market that does not yet exist.ĭr. Daggett, these skills can lead to successes in academics and in the workplace, and also encourage social and emotional development. 
This involves prioritizing the teaching of “non-cognitive skills,” or values like responsibility, initiative, perseverance, and adaptability. Daggett’s major points was that our education systems should evolve as technology and the job market have. Titled “Preparing Students for Their Future,” the talk drew in a crowd of teachers and administrative staff, as well as some architects from SMMA’s K-12 Studio. (ICLE), at a presentation in Houlton, Maine earlier this Spring. Bill Daggett, Ed.D., Founder and Chairman of International Center for Leadership in Education, Inc. This statistic was one of many staggering truths declared by Dr. “65 percent of children in our elementary schools will work in jobs that do not exist today.”
